Tue, 29 Sep 2009 04:36:20 -0700 DELTA LUNCH, WEBB, MISSISSIPPI http://southernbelly.com/delta-lunch-webb-mississippi http://southernbelly.com/delta-lunch-webb-mississippi

Stopped at Vera's in Webb, Mississippi, yesterday. No sign, but you could smell the fried chicken from the street.

Back right was a steamtable, stocked with fat butter beans, skinny pole beans, and fried chicken with a spare and soft crust.

Crowd was half black, half white, more integrated than any of the churches, I'm betting.

"Try the Fisherman's Wife, a trailer on the side of the road in Carrabelle, FL, for the finest grouper sandwich ever."

Mon, 16 Mar 2009 04:57:00 -0700 Vicksburg, MS Report from Mary Beth Lasseter http://southernbelly.com/vicksburg-ms-report-from-mary http://southernbelly.com/vicksburg-ms-report-from-mary

Walnut Hills is the place to go for round tables at lunch; it's downtown.

Hot Dog Man is fun for lunch. Serves what you'd think.

Jacques in the lobby of the Battlefield Inn is probably the best food in town--catfish or steak, both with cream sauce, served by big-hair waitresses, about $20/plate, best accompanied by $2 glasses of wine.

Sun, 15 Mar 2009 14:22:46 -0700 Jones Barbecue Diner in Marianna, AR, should have made the book... http://southernbelly.com/jones-barbecue-diner-in-marian http://southernbelly.com/jones-barbecue-diner-in-marian Read the "Race Issue" of the Oxford American, out in March, 2009, for a piece on Jones.

Stop by Jones for hickory-smoked barbecue that's so soft and creamy it will remind you of rilletes.
